Texas Trails Council Internet Policy

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Texas Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America, Internet Website is to:

  • Promote the exchange of information among the Scouts and Scouters of the Texas Trails Council
  • Market Scouting to the local communities
  • Enhance the mission to the communities by promoting the program, aims, and methods of the Boy Scouts of America.

The Texas Trails Council website supplements existing forms of communications in conducting the Scouting program. It is recognized that all Scouts and Scouters do not have access to the Internet and/or e-mail. While this website may aid in the timely exchange and dissemination of information, website and e-mail access is not required to obtain the information.

The Texas Trails Council is committed to respecting and protecting the personal privacy of its members and those who visit its website.

CONTENT

All documents, illustrations, photographs, and linked materials must conform to the principles, policies, and traditions of the Boy Scouts of America and the Texas Trails Council. This is the only official Texas Trails Council home page.

Links

The only approved links are those to other Boy Scout Regional and National websites, those that directly benefit Texas Trails Council, BSA, and those that are required to view the information presented on the site (such as Adobe Acrobat Reader). There shall be no links to individual unit websites, Chartered Partners, or other non-BSA sites. Links to other Councils will be kept to a minimum and must be beneficial to the Texas Trails Council.  The inclusion of website addresses does not imply BSA or Texas Trails Council endorsement nor their conformance to BSA or Texas Trails Council policies.  Use of these websites is at your own risk.

Forms

Various forms can be found throughout the Texas Trails Council website. There are also links to other BSA forms not part of the Texas Trails Council. All information electronically submitted will be used by the Texas Trails Council for the intended purpose and not released to any third party unless noted otherwise on the specific web page.

Privacy

Providing personal information is never a prerequisite for access any of the content or resources on the Texas Trails Council website. Specifically, refusal to provide personal information via a Web interface will never result in a user being denied access to any on-line content or resource they would be able to access if the information were submitted.

The use of individual’s personal information and/or photographs will be limited to the following:

  1. The names of youth under the age of 18 can be listed as long as there is no other personal information or photographs provided.
  2. Personal information of youth between the ages of 13 and 18 can be added after an Information Release is signed by that youth’s parent or guardian and the type of information allowed is annotated.
  3. Written permission is not required to list the names of adults. Other personal information (address, phone number, etc.) can only be listed after an Information Release has been signed indicating what information is allowed.
  4. Pictures of youth may appear on the website as long as there is no name or other personal information associated with the picture. An Information Release must be signed by that youth’s parent or guardian in order to list the name.
  5. Pictures and names of adults may appear on the website. An Information Release must be signed for other information to be listed.

Individual Web pages (or "Subwebs")

The Texas Trails Council will not provide space to units, individuals, or chartered partners for their own web pages. Districts and Order of the Arrow (OA) lodge(s) of the Texas Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America, may have individual pages or subwebs as part of the official website. All District and OA pages and content will be approved and uploaded by the webmaster.

Sales

There will be no advertisements, commercial endorsements, electronic sales of BSA supply division merchandise, or sales or promotions of competing products allowed on the Texas Trails Council website. No BSA publication currently for sale through the supply division may be replicated.

INFORMATION GATHERING

It is the policy of the Texas Trails Council to acquire personal information from users only by overt and voluntary means, only when it is in the interest of the user to provide it, and to utilize this information only for the purpose it was provided.

COPYRIGHTS

Every effort is made to protect copyrights. Known copyrighted material is noted and the author will continue to update this information when received. The material appearing on the Texas Trails Council, BSA, website is copyrighted, whether the copyright is noted or not, and is not to be used commercially without express written permission.

We strive to protect copyrights. Any copyrighted material inadvertently included in this website will be removed upon notification if permission cannot be obtained.

Information and resources found on this site may be used and reproduced for Scouting purposes only.
